One year by and by, he sign a product sign with the well-thought-of Scottish tag Hook Recordings, and watched as "Navigator" and "Shredder" became proper British golf club hits, extending his list and resumé across the earth. During 1999, he released deuce more shuffle albums, Temptation (for City of Angels) and the tag retrospective Filch Recordings. Signed to the American shuffle label Moonshine Music, Lawrence delivered his fourth collection, Trilogy, Part One: Empire, in 2000; Joined States of Trance on Moonshine followed soon after. His first gear production album, All or Nothing, appeared in 2004, which was followed later in the year by Un-Hooked: The Hook Sessions.

Joe Dolan remembered in Mullingar

More than 2,000 people gathered at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar for the funeral of the singer and entertainer Joe Dolan.
Among the first to arrive at the funeral this morning were leading figures in the Irish entertainment industry, including  Paddy Cole, Dickie Rock, Ronnie Drew, Brendan Grace and Oliver Barry.
The homily at the Requiem Mass was delivered by the Fr Brian Darcy.
The mourners heard how the 68-year-old singer secretly gave tens of thousands of euro to the poor during his career.
Speaking to a gathering at the Cathederal, Fr Darcy said Dolan had wanted the donations to remain private throughout his life.
Fr Darcy said that Dolan and his band were pioneers of the Celtic Tiger era because they brought joy and entertainment to a very dull nation in the 1960s.
The burial after the funeral mass was in Walshestown Cemetery.

After achieving superstardom throughout Latin America, Colombian-born Shakira became Latin pop's biggest female crossover creative person since Jennifer Lopez stone-broke down the doors to English-language winner. Noted for her aggressive, rock-influenced access, Shakira maintained an extraordinary degree of creative control over her music, specially for a female creative person; she wrote or co-wrote nearly all of her have corporeal, and in the serve gained a reputation as one of Latin music's to the highest degree ambitiously poetic lyricists. When she released her first English material in late 2001, she became an inst pop sensation, thanks to her quirky poetic sense and a aphrodisiacal video recording image built on her hip-shaking belly dance moves.

Shakira Mebarak (wide make: Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll) was natural February 2, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia, into a poor sept. Her mother was a native Colombian and her father was of Lebanese line of descent, and so as a child Shakira pixilated up music from both cultures; she as well listened heavily to English-language rock & rove, itemization her pet bands in afterward interviews as Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, the Police, the Cure, and Nirvana. Shakira wrote her first sung at eld ashcan School, began entrance (and fetching) talent competitions at years x, and started scholarship the guitar at years 11; one write up runs that around this age, she was kicked out of her school choir for singing as well forcefully. In 1990, at age 13, Shakira affected to Bogotá in hopes of pursuing a modeling life history, but wound up sign language a phonograph recording deal with Sony's Colombian division rather. Her 1991 debut album, Magia (Thaumaturgy), was comprised of songs she'd written o'er the past five or sestet old age, including some of her earliest efforts. Although it didn't break internationally, the record started to make up a identify for her in her menage nation. Dissatisfied with the crop up inclinations of the follow-up, 1993's Peligro ( Shakira changed guidance for a time, connexion the hurl of the Colombian soap opera El Oasis in 1994.

When Shakira returned to transcription in 1995, she asserted more mastery over the direction of her music, and worked more careen & roll rhythms -- as well as occasional Arabic tinges -- into her Latin crop up material. The first-class honours degree results were Pies Descalzos (Stripped Feet), which was ab initio released in 1995; a slow seller at number 1, the album step by step caught on thanks to "Estoy Aqui," which became a hit all over Latin America, as well as Spain. After that breakthrough, Pies Descalzos barely unbroken spinning off singles: "Dónde Estás Corazón?," "Antología," "Pienso en Ti," "Un Poco de Amor," "Se Quiere, Se Mata." The record album strike number one in eight different countries and eventually went platinum in the U.S. as well; Shakira toured for well-nigh deuce years promoting it (she ultimately left El Oasis in 1997).

Seeking to build on her winner, Shakira signed Emilio Estefan -- Gloria's husband and a highly successful music-biz insider -- as her coach and producer. The move paid cancelled when her followup album, 1998's Dónde Están los Ladrones? (Where Are the Thieves?), became an regular bigger universal pip than its predecessor. What was more than, it cracked the lucrative U.S. securities industry across-the-board open, outlay 11 weeks at phone number one on Billboard's Latin record album chart and producing two U.S. figure ones (on the Latin chart) with "Ciega, Sordomuda" and "Tu." The album's signature track, however, was the global hit "Ojos Así," her about denotative nod so far to the Arabic music she'd picked up from her don (not to credit its latent paunch saltation connotations). Dónde Están los Ladrones? was as well the most effective presentation yet of Shakira's strong-minded persona; her soul-searching made her even more than pop among female fans, spell her angriness over love gone wrong drew comparisons to Alanis Morissette.

When Gloria Estefan offered to translate "Ojos Así" into English, the prospect of a crossing on the spur of the moment seemed real, and Shakira distinct that the most effective means to sustain control o'er her real was to get a line English well enough to pen in it herself. In the interim, she set the stage for her crossover voter offer with a performance on MTV Unplugged, the channel's first gear Spanish-language propagate. MTV Unplugged was released as an album in early 2000, and topped the Latin charts for deuce weeks on its room to decorous her third base neat platinum album; it too north Korean won a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. At the inauguration Latin Grammy Awards ceremony in 2000, Shakira delivered a much-discussed, show-stopping performance of "Ojos Así" and took nursing home Unpluggedrelated trophies for Best Female Pop Vocal ("Ojos Así") and Best Female Rock Vocal ("Eightvo Dia").

Mainstream pop stardom beckoned. Shakira bleached her long brown hair blonde, romanced Antonio de la Rua (word of the early president of Argentina), and went to work on her first (mostly) English-language album, Laundry Service. The single/video "Whenever, Wherever" was released in advance of the album in late 2001, and made her a star in the English-speaking world about overnight. Laundry Service entered the American pop charts at number trinity, and "Whenever, Wherever" climbed into the Top Ten of the singles chart, peaking at issue six-spot. The follow-up, "Underneath Your Clothes," likewise dispatch the Top Ten, game at number nine; less than a year after its dismission, Washables Service had gone three-base hit platinum. Reviews of Wash Service were divided as to the effectuality of Shakira's English lyrics, only nearly all in agreement on her unique poetic imaging.

Extensive touring to support Wash Service lED to a long break for the isaac M. Singer, so a remix assemblage (2002's Laundry Service: Washed and Dried) and a live record album (2004's Alive & Off the Record) appeared in position of a new album. Revitalized, Shakira began the writing process for her following release and before long had 60 songs quick to go, some in English, some in Spanish. Twenty of the songs were selected and divided up by language to make deuce different albums. Both appeared in 2005 and both dispatch the Top Ten, with the Spanish-language record album Fijacion Oral, Vol. 1 starring the fashion in June with a number quaternity placing and the English-language record album, Unwritten Fixation, Vol. 2, undermentioned in November at number quintuplet. As sales of Unwritten Fixation began to slow in early 2006, Epic reissued the record album in March with a fillip track, "Hip Don't Lie." The freshly recorded song went on to top the Billboard Hot century chart in June, seemly one of the summer's biggest hits and reviving gross revenue of Unwritten Fixation as well as Shakira's total back catalog.

Television presenter Holly Willoughby has defended her wardrobe for the reality show 'Dancing on Ice' after criticism from viewers.
According to reports, members of the public have complained that the presenter's dresses are too revealing.
Responding to the complaints on ITV show 'Loose Women', Willoughby said: "It's just the weirdest thing that has ever happened - like I've been living in someone else's world the last two weeks."
"My body dictates that it suits certain things, so I always wear the same style of dress. Unfortunately those are the things that get attention. It would be nice if the publicity was, 'Isn't she good at her job?'."
She also told The Mirror: "I can't believe the stir it caused. I like to wear feminine clothes and I've had people coming up to me in the street saying how much they liked it."

Literacy centre named for Kanye West's mother

A library and literacy centre are being named after Kanye West's late mother in honour of the contributions she made to the Sierra Leone community.

Construction of the Donda West Library & Literacy Center is set to begin this autumn. A posting made yesterday (May 27) on Kanye's blog explains:

"In 2005, Donda West and the Kanye West Foundation donated $5000 to provide textbooks for children in Sierra Leone. Those funds were used to completely rehabilitate a dilapidated, roofless school building for 416 children.

"A new roof, new desks, new books and a new future for children who eagerly attended school faithfully each day, regardless of their dire surroundings and home life. As a result of Ms. West??s generous donation, Shine On Sierra Leone was developed to sustain these initial efforts.

"In 2008, Muddy Lotus Primary was dedicated to the memory of Donda West and her love for education. In honor of this, Shine On Sierra Leone plans to break ground for the 'Donda West Library & Literacy Center' this fall."

The literacy centre will offer free classes to students and parents within the community, addressing the 80 percent illiteracy rate there.

Meanwhile, Kanye West continues his Glow In The Dark tour, stopping at several North American festivals and arenas throughout the summer.

Gavin Rossdale Gets 'Aggressive,' Political On First Solo LP, But Don't Expect Any Gwen Stefani Cameos

On Tuesday, Wanderlust, the first true solo LP from former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, hit shelves worldwide. While it does boast an exhilarating cameo from Garbage's Shirley Manson (on the track "The Trouble I'm In"), the album will not feature a duet with No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, Rossdale's pregnant pop-star wife. In fact, it's unlikely such a collaboration will ever materialize on tape, he admitted.

That's because for Rossdale, the idea is just too much of a rock-and-roll cliché. He's no Sonny, and Gwen's no Cher. They're too very different artists, and he said they'd like to avoid combining their professional and personal lives.

"It's bad enough with the whole intrusive, paparazzi-celebrity-weird-photo life," he said. "I like mystery. The people I care the most about, whether it's in music or films or art or whatever, I don't really need to know anything about them. The less I know about them, the better, because then I can just have my own unfiltered image of them, and whatever they do publically, for me, can just work its magic. When we get burdened by people at Starbucks, it just takes away from that mystery."

Wanderlust, which was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica), is Rossdale's first studio offering since Institute — the band he formed after Bush's 2002 split — released their 2005 debut, Distort Yourself. And Stefani's hunky hubby claims that anyone who liked his work with both bands will find something to love on this new record.

"There's a reality that, when I sing with a guitar, it can sound similar to the last time I sang with a guitar," he said. "I can't help that. So people who enjoy either of those bands will enjoy this record. It's quite an aggressive record, which emancipated me a bit. I could bring the guitars back a little bit and let the atmosphere take over, which is what I've always tried to do anyway. This record allowed me to try something different, and with every record, I've always tried to do something different. Sometimes, when records have been less successful than others, I've always thought I'd screwed up, and that I should have done the same record."

Distort Yourself was one such record, having sold a mere 57,000 copies to date in the U.S. And the lukewarm reception to it was disappointing for Rossdale, who ruled out an Institute revival.

"Bands are like sharks — they've got to keep moving," he said. "[Institute was] a dead shark. It didn't really work out, but I just think that if people hear [Wanderlust], and they like it, they may investigate the Institute record. There are tracks on the Institute record that could've fit on this record easily, but that's just the way it goes. You try to make everything good, and every once in a while, you get one that takes off."

What struck Rossdale most about Institute was how "indifferent" people seemed toward the disc. "Love and hate...that's the sort of thing you get used to if you sell more than 20 copies of your record. So, it was just the fact that it couldn't make a big enough of a splash," he said. "We went on tour with U2, and they liked the record. I guess it's just too difficult to come from a successful band and start a new band, and I felt weird doing it anyway."

Rossdale said he gets political for the first time on this album, but the message isn't as overt as the kind you'd find in, say, Rage Against the Machine tunes.

"Some of the songs are reflections on the war," he said. "I took it quite to heart when Neil Young said bands of the younger generation weren't really making too much music about the war, and I thought, to a degree, he was right. I would never clothe it in a political statement, because I think Rage are the only band that can do that and have a kind of resonance to it. For me, it was about personalizing it. I have to go on tour and do this life, and it's hard for me to leave my family, but I can't imagine what it would be like to leave your family, and be under the threat of gunfire, the threat of being killed. I only get killed in print."

This summer, Rossdale will be touring mostly overseas in support of Wanderlust, but he is mapping out a U.S. headlining run for the fall.

Oasis Noel Gallgher hails Paul Weller's 'brave' new album

Oasis leader Noel Gallagher has declared that Paul Weller is brave to buck current music trends and release a double album.

The former Jam frontman's new release '22 Dreams' is a double record, which includes a guest spot from guitarist on it.

Speaking to BBC 6Music's Music Week show, Gallagher expressed his admiration for Weller's decision to make the album a double disc release.

Its easily his best one since 'Heavy Soul'. I think its a really brave decision to make a double album in the year that the music business is shrinking, hes expanding," declared the Oasis man. "I think its really really good, really enjoyable. I find him inspirational as a character.

Weller himself added that not only was he prepared to buck music industry trends, he was also against the idea of giving away music for free.

Id like to charge people double the price for my record if I could, dont know if Id get away with it!" he joked. "Im not having it [free music]. It lessens the art, cheapens the art. Why shouldnt an artist be paid for the work hes doing? Its not for free.

The full interview can be heard at 1pm (BST) tomorrow June 1 on BBC 6Music go to bbc.co.uk/6music
